P0457 Possible Causes

Damaged, missing or loosely installed fuel filler cap

P0457 Possible Symptoms

Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible a noticeable fuel odor caused by the release of fuel vapors

Fuel cap indicator lamp (FCIL) may be illuminated.

Description

This diagnosis detects leaks in the Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) purge line using engine intake manifold vacuum. If pressure does not increase, the Engine Control Module (ECM) will check for leaks in the line between the fuel tank and EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve under the following vacuum test condition. The vacuum cut valve bypass valve is opened to clear the line between the fuel tank and the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve. The EVAP canister vent control valve will then be closed to shut the EVAP purge line off. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is opened to depressurize the EVAP purge line using intake manifold vacuum. After this depressurization is implemented, the EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve will be closed.

P0325 Possible Causes

Faulty Knock Sensor

Knock Sensor circuit poor electrical connection

Knock Sensor harness is open or shorted

Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM)

P0325 Possible Symptoms

Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible Lack/Loss of Power

Description

A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is sensed as vibrational pressure by the Knock Sensor. This pressure is converted into a voltage signal and sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM uses this signal to retard the ignition timing and protect the engine from this damaging pre-ignition. Engine knock occurs within a specific frequency range. The Knock Sensor, located in the engine block, cylinder head, or intake manifold, is tuned to detect that frequency. Inside the knock sensor is a piezoelectric element. Piezoelectric elements generate a voltage when pressure or vibration is applied to them. The piezoelectric element in the Knock Sensor is tuned to the engine knock frequency. The vibration from the engine knocking vibrates the piezoelectric element generating a voltage. The voltage output from the Knock Sensor is highest at this time.

P0174 Possible Causes

Intake air leaks

Faulty front heated oxygen sensor

Ignition misfiring

Faulty fuel injectors

Exhaust gas leaks

Incorrect fuel pressure

Lack of fuel

Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor

Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection

P0174 Possible Symptoms

Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Excessive Fuel Consumption

Description

With the Air/Fuel Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closer to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors 1. The Engine Control Module (ECM) calculates the necessary compensation to correct the offset between the actual and the theoretical ratios. In case the amount of the compensation value is extremely large (The actual mixture ratio is too lean.), the ECM judges the condition as the fuel injection system malfunction and light up the MIL (2 trip detection logic).

P0113 Possible Causes

Faulty Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor

Dirty air filter

Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor harness is open or shorted

Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor circuit poor electrical connection

P0113 Possible Symptoms

Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Description

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor contains a semiconductor device which changes the resistance based on the temperature (a thermistor). The IAT sensor is located in the air intake passage of the engine air induction system. The IAT sensor has a signal circuit and a ground circuit. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Intake Air Temperature Sensor signal. The PCM sets the OBDII code when the Intake Air Temperature Sensor signal is out of factory specifications.

P0449 Possible Causes

Purge Control Valve harness is open or shorted

Purge Control Valve electrical circuit poor connection

Faulty canister vent control valve

P0449 Possible Symptoms

Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Description

The Evaporative Emission System (EVAP) canister vent control valve is located on the EVAP canister and is used to seal the canister vent. This solenoid (the EVAP canister vent control valve) responds to signals from the Engine Control Module (ECM). When the ECM sends an ON signal, the coil in the solenoid valve is energized. A plunger will then move to seal the canister vent. The ability to seal the vent is necessary for the on board diagnosis of other evaporative emission control system components. This solenoid valve is used only for diagnosis, and usually remains opened. When the vent is closed, under normal purge conditions, the evaporative emission control system is depressurized and allows EVAP Control System (Small Leak) diagnosis.

P0441 Possible Causes

Missing Fuel cap

Incorrect fuel filler cap used

Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close

Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap

Incorrect fuel tank vacuum relief valve

P0441 Possible Symptoms

Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible a noticeable fuel odor caused by the release of fuel vapors

Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) tests the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system for the following conditions:

– Large and small leaks

– Excess vacuum

– Purge flow during non-commanded conditions

– Fuel Level and Fuel Pressure sensor faults

– EVAP Purge and Vent Valve faults

The ECM monitors the Fuel Tank Pressure sensor in order to determine the level of vacuum/pressure in the EVAP system. The ECM commands both the EVAP Purge Solenoid and the EVAP Vent Valve ON when the conditions are met in order to apply an engine vacuum to the EVAP system. The ECM commands the EVAP Purge Solenoid OFF once the system has reached a predetermined level of vacuum. This test verifies if a vacuum can be achieved in the EVAP system. Failure to develop a vacuum may be caused by a large leak or a restriction.

Check out nonda Auto DIY Center for more engine error code repairing videos.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-Lyko0O0oxHe1AGvzwAz-wokJPXAtW97

P0128 Possible Causes

Leaking or stuck open thermostat

Low engine coolant level

Insufficient warm up time

Faulty engine coolant temperature sensor

Engine coolant temperature sensor harness is open or shorted

Engine coolant temperature sensor circuit poor electrical connection

P0128 Possible Symptoms

Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Description

The thermostat is a component that blocks the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up. When the engine is cold, no coolant flows through the engine. Once the engine reaches its operating temperature, the thermostat opens. The OBDII sets when the engine coolant temperature has not risen enough to open the thermostat even though the engine has run long enough. This is due to a leak in the seal or the thermostat open stuck.
