C0398 Code: Meaning, Causes, and Symptoms | OBD2 Codes
C0398 – Range Actuator Position- Range Position Correlation
C0398 Possible Symptoms
Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light ON,Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
C0398 Possible Causes
Faulty Transfer Case Range Actuator Position Sensor,Transfer Case Range Actuator Position Sensor harness is open or shorted,Transfer Case Range Actuator Position Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
The transfer case range actuator position sensor is also known as the incremental position sensor. The transfer case range actuator position sensor is an integral part of the A16 Transfer Case Motor and cannot be replaced independently. The A16 Transfer Case Motor is also known as the transfer case range actuator. The B227 Gear Position Sensor is also known as the transfer case range position sensor, the two/four wheel drive actuator position sensor, or the rotational position sensor. The B227 Gear Position Sensor is an absolute sensor and is an independently replaceable part. Both sensors send transfer case range position information to the transfer case control module as voltage signals, which is then converted to degrees by the transfer case control module software. If the two sensors disagree by greater than a predetermined amount, the DTC will set. The range actuator position sensor is more sensitive than the B227 Gear Position Sensor, but needs to reference the B227 Gear Position Sensor value at ignition ON and range changes.
