P0324 MERCEDES-BENZ Description

This fault code is stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM) when a combustion anomaly is detected. When irregular combustion takes place a detectable knock or vibration occurs. This acts on the knock sensor and causes a voltage to be generated by the component. The ECM then uses the output from the camshaft position sensor to calculate the knock window for a given ignition event. The knock window is the angular period, in crankshaft rotation, when combustion knock can occur. If the knock sensor produces a voltage outside of the knock window, the signal will be ignored. For correct operation of the knock sensor, the component must be torqued to the correct tightness and the retaining bolt must be replaced after it has been removed. The engine lubrication system should also be inspected as a fault here could result in false knock sensor codes being generated.
